Recently took a night helicopter flight over Los Angeles to get images for the drawings I’m making for the Sepulveda and Exposition stop on the Expo line. My friend, artist, Justin Moore, took this one.
I usually don’t like doing these flights. They make me so nervous that I often don’t sleep the night before, but this one was pretty great. We went up right after a light storm had blown through, and the sunset was pink and perfect. Also, very little wind, which helped the fear factor. We fly with the doors off in a helicopter so tiny, it feels like a elaborate toy, but it’s the closest I’ve ever gotten to feeling like I could fly. The next day it felt odd and a little sad to be on the ground.
